Denominato anche Teatro Scientifico, esso nacque per le finalità dell'Accademia Virgiliana, destinato ad ospitare sia spettacoli sia sperimentazioni scientifiche ed esposizioni dottrinali.Ne è autore il parmense Antonio Galli Bibiena, il quale vi profuse un genio inventivo che fa di quest'opera il più compiuto esempio di architettura teatrale del gusto rococò.
Fu inaugurato nel 1769; un mese dopo vi tenne un concerto W. A. Mozart.

Bellissima struttura a due minuti da piazza Sordello, meritevole di visita. L'atmosfera che si respira sembra condurre indietro nel tempo. Ottima acustica.
